Thursday is here with recs for you!

This Thursday, I'm recommending everyone do a quick brush-up on the recent community rules update, especially since I'm adding a teensy bit more today: Dreamwidth Admin privileges do not allow me to edit post content, only to add or remove tags, change age restriction settings, or delete entries entirely. So starting now, if I notice that your entry has needs a cut, I'll do my very best to get ahold of you ASAP to fix things, but if you don't respond or find a way to contact me in 48 hours, even to say "I'm sorry, I don't have proper computer access at the moment!", I'll have to delete the entry. This is not something I want to do; I'd much rather just change the access level to Private (where presumably only the poster and the community admin can see it), but that doesn't seem to be an option at the moment. I plan to ask about that when I get a moment, but in the mean time, those are the options.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on this, or any of the new rules! I'm open to input on anything community members think needs adjusting.

On a lighter note: Do you have a rec for this week? Just reply to this post with something queer or queer-adjacent (such as, soap made by a queer person that isn't necessarily queer themed) that you'd, well, recommend. Self-recs are welcome, as are recs for fandom-related content!

Or have you tried something that's been recced here? Do you have your own report to share about it? I'd love to hear about it!

Name: sewagelag00n. Sewa for short.

Age: 20

I mostly post about: My daily life, some stuff about my hexperiences regarding "mental health"/Madness. Occasionally I'll talk about media I've been into.

My hobbies are: Selfshipping! DIY alternative fashion, customizing clothes & making jewelry. Ballet. Writing & art. Doll collecting. Soft toys.

My fandoms are: Some Sword/Some Play (18+)! A very obscure little game that I love so much I've basically adopted one of the characters as my OC. Please I am so abnormal about these lesbians. Longtime Vocaloid fan, I think I'm coming up on 9 years now. I love Hatsune Miku (she's literally me) and recently Teto SynthV has captured my heart. Recently got back into FNaF (my favorite is Mangle!). Very normal about Neon Genesis Evangelion. Huge music nerd: love digital hardcore like Ada Rook, but also into stuff under the goth umbrella, industrial, shoegaze, new wave... I like a little bit of everything. I also love Emilie Autumn, Machine Girl, Nashimoto Ui, Chelsea Wolfe, and femtanyl.

I'm looking to meet people who: Honestly, just looking for more interaction. People who post regularly and will comment on my posts.

My posting schedule tends to be: Every couple of days, but sometimes I take a week off.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: Those who follow Abrahamic religions. I am a staunch antitheist. I do have religious friends, I don’t blanket hate all religious people, but it is a turnoff. I am more receptive to other religious/spiritual people. Transmisogynists, racists, sanists, homophobes, other bigots.

Before adding me, you should know: My blog is very much 18+ and viewer discretion advised because I am into a lot of dark and sexual things. I am Mad and hexperience things like plurality (one of my alters sometimes posts on this account too) and self-harm and intense mood swings. I am very critical of the psychiatric system. I am polyamorous and have 3 real-life partners and a whole host of fictional ones.

hebetude [heb-i-tood, -tyood]

noun:
listlessness, lethargy, or laziness of the mind

Examples:

Though the pandemic-induced hebetude still prevails in day-to-day affairs, the high-octane election campaign and heated political arguments have oozed a degree of anxiety and buzz into the mundane lives of the lesser mortals (Shan A S, LDF sitting pretty; UDF, NDA hope to upset its applecart in Vamanapuram, The New Indian Express, March 2021)

From that solitude, full of despair and terror, he was torn out brutally, with kicks and blows, passive, sunk in hebetude. (Joseph Conrad, Nostromo)

So you think you are saving yourselves from madness, but you are falling into mediocrity, into hebetude. (Italo Calvino, Difficult Loves)

This hebetude of all faculty was the merciful, protecting method that Nature took with her, dimming the lamp of consciousness until the wounded creature could gain sufficient resiliency to bear a full realization of life. (Robert Herrick, Clark's Field)

Benumbed, exhausted, sunk in hebetude, she waited until she could wait no more, until intolerable suspense drove her blindly. (John Russell, Where the Pavement Ends)

Origin:
1620s, from Latin hebetudo, noun of quality from hebes 'blunt, dull', figuratively 'sluggish; stupid', a word of unknown origin. (Online Etymology Dictionary)

Hebetude usually suggests mental dullness, often marked by laziness or torpor. As such, it was a good word for one Queenslander correspondent, who wrote in a letter to the editor of the Weekend Australian of 'an epidemic of hebetude among young people who … are placing too great a reliance on electronic devices to do their thinking and remembering.' Hebetude comes from Late Latin hebetudo, which means pretty much the same thing as our word. It is also closely related to the Latin word for 'dull,' hebes, which has extended meanings such as 'obtuse,' 'doltish,' and 'stupid.' (Merriam-Webster)

Hello, everyone! I've got some minor rules updates for the community that I want to alert everyone to. They're pretty much all about use of cut tags. (To learn more about cut tags, check this article of Dreamwidth's FAQ or this tutorial post; you can also use Details/Summary HTML instead.)

First, remember to put any content that would require a CW tag under a cut. Unlike Tumblr and some other sites, blanket blocking a tag is more complicated on Dreamwidth, and jump-scaring compulsive readers is probably better avoided! If your entry uses any of the Content Warning tags, then it needs a cut.

Second, in addition to properly age labeling any 18+ content, put any NSFW content under a cut. If it's legal in the US, it's legal to share in this community, but I don't want anyone to get in trouble at work for scrolling through this community on their break! If your entry has any NSFW content, then it needs a cut.

Finally, please put any images that are over 500 pixels in any dimension under a cut, as well as utilizing a cut for posts that are significantly longer than a few hundred words. In addition, if you're sharing more than three images, please put the majority of them under a cut. This is to keep things neat and tidy on reading pages, reduce load times (for images), and to let any compulsive readers out there decide whether they want to read the whole post or not.

I'm also planning to add a new Content Warning label for drugs and/or alcohol; if you have suggestions for any others, please let me know!

Edit: Unfortunately, my account administrator privileges don't extend to letting me change the privacy settings for posts I don't personally make; I can only add or remove tags, change the age restriction settings, or delete posts entirely. While I would greatly prefer to simply adjust the privacy settings to any post that requires but doesn't have a cut, that is unfortunately not an option at the moment. Therefore:

If you do not reach out to me somehow within 48 hours of me contacting you about a post that needs a cut but doesn't have one, I will be deleting that post. If you don't have access to your Dreamwidth account, one option is to leave an anonymous comment on whatever the most recent Thursday Recs post is, and I will do my best to work something out with you from there. Otherwise, deleting the post that needs a cut is the only way I have of enforcing the rules, which I am prepared to do. [End Edit]

I'm welcoming feedback on all of these, or any of the other community rules, so if you have any thoughts to share, I'd love to hear them! Please also take this as an excuse to review the community rules overall as I apparently needed to do myself, oops. And thanks for spending time at Queerly Beloved with me!

I took a bunch of really nice photos of the crow army today - with the light reflecting from the snow, the details of their feathers come out so beautifully. Look at how blue/purple the big feathers are, edged by black, compared to the dark black of the smaller head feathers.

This is the boldest of them. He stayed juuuust out of arm's reach but didn't mind me kneeling down and stretching my arm out at him. He miiiight be Mr Roadside Pair but I don't think so, I think he is smaller.,,,
